Kasai - Original Character

After utilizing and constantly tweaking my original character Kasai in both my texturing and especially my animation, I decided to consolidate what I've learned and take the time to revamp his design.

For the longest time I've had the concept in my mind of this character being a circus performer of sorts and realized that his appearance didn't immediately bring that to mind, so that became my goal on top of reassessing his anatomy. I began with the sketches in the upper right corner where I began with a circus dancer-inspired outfit. It was fun to draw and design color schemes but I realized it wasn't exactly what I wanted.

After collecting more reference material, I decided to take more from circus acrobats and landed on a leotard for the final costume, which seemed to get the idea across well while also being more streamlined which was a bonus. After landing on a generally red/blue/yellow color scheme, I went onto make the final design to the left. It mostly came down to combining the best of my previous sketches while adding a few touches to highlight Kasai's wild side, like his hair and fur being more spiky and his fists becoming larger.

At the end of this process, I'm overjoyed with how Kasai came out and believe this is the strongest his design has ever been. Now I'm looking forward to applying everything I've learned to my other character designs, old and new!
